97.3 the Wave is extremely proud to partner with many non-profits and charitable organizations that make a difference in our community! We’re shining a spotlight on these organizations to share how they’re continuing to help our community through the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as how we can help support them.
What has been a highlight for your organization from the past year?
“In the past year, the Kennebecasis Lions Club celebrated our 60th Anniversary in November 2019. We are a member of Lions Clubs International (founded in 1917 in Chicago, USA) which is the largest Service Organization in the world, with over 1.4 million members in 47,000 clubs serving in 200+ countries and regions around the world.
Located in Rothesay at the Bill McGuire Centre, our club is one of 9 local Lions Clubs in the Greater Saint John area whose members are a group of individuals who have joined together to give their valuable time and effort to improving our community with a simple mission – Lions Serve!
Our Kennebecasis Lions Club features three signature annual events during the year as major fundraisers – our Pub Auction (23 years), raucous Men’s Lobster Stag (52 years) and our classy Ladies Night Out 19 years).
In addition, we conduct two or three auctions a year that are for more particular causes such as individuals or families who have a medical crisis or for local charities to help in their cause. We are very proud to have raised $2,000,000 to better our community and help friends in need.
What message do you have for the community right now?
The Covid-19 pandemic has been a game changer in the way we currently live our lives. Thanks to our community coming together in following the guidelines from our New Brunswick Department of Health as well as national, provincial and local leaders, TOGETHER, we have been vigilant in our resolve to over come the obstacles ahead of us. Great appreciation and Special THANKS to all of our doctors, nurses, caregivers,1st responders, truckers and all our selfless workers who are keeping our pharmacies, grocery stores, small businesses and essential services open. YOU are our true Heroes! Keep Safe, Healthy and Vigilant so TOGETHER we will be able to build our economy back and regain our normal way of life!
How can our community help you at this time?
Our Kennebecasis Lions Club is grateful to be part of this great community. Unfortunately, our two upcoming events in May – Ladies Night Out and Lobster Stag have been postponed. So, when we all come out of this pandemic in a safe way, we will reschedule our events and hope to see you all join us for fun & enjoyment as we help others in our community.
