Mounties are investigating a homicide at the Atlantic Institution in Renous.
Police say they were called to the federal corrections facility just before 10:30 a.m. Monday.
They say a 27-year-old man was found badly injured in his cell and was pronounced dead at the infirmary.
Correctional Service Canada has identified the inmate as Calvin Clifford Kenny.
He was serving a nearly 17-year sentence for several offences, including manslaughter, forcible confinement, arson and armed robbery.

New Brunswick RCMP’s Major Crime Unit has taken over the investigation.
They say an autopsy will be performed to determine how Kenny died.
