Tax rates in Grand Bay-Westfield will remain at $1.37 per $100 of assessed value for the 13th straight year.
Town council approved the $6.1-million operating budget for 2019 during their regular meeting last week.
Mayor Grace Losier said she believes council has done a good job at managing its books over the years.
“We try to invest in those things that make our community attractive and bolster the quality of life in Grand Bay-Westfield,” Losier said.
Capital projects
Losier said the budget includes $900,000 for capital projects, which means they will not have to borrow any money.
She said the focus will be on resurfacing streets because it helps to retain property values for town residents.
“Last year, or in 2017, we had completed resurfacing every town-owned street, and so we’re starting over,” Losier said.
Losier said the budget also includes a one per cent increase for policing services provided by the RCMP.
In addition to maintaining the tax rate, the town’s annual sewerage user fee will remain at $270 per unit.
