If you rent a water heater or heat pump from Saint John Energy, get ready to pay a bit more starting in January.
The utility says water heater rental rates will climb by 2.9 per cent or about 32 cents a month for most customers.
For heat pumps, the rental rate will go up by one per cent, or about 49 cents a month for the average customer.
“The increase … reflects the increased costs of providing the programs in recent months, including those related to steel and aluminium tariffs put in place between the US and Canada during 2018,” Ray Robinson, president and CEO of Saint John Energy, said in a news release.
The utility says this is the first increase since April of 2017.
