Bruce Connell, who retired back in late 2014, is replacing outgoing chief John Bates and will be taking on the role starting on April 1.
A swearing-in ceremony will be held in late April.

“We’re pleased to welcome Bruce back to the Saint John Police Force family,” Jennifer Carhart, chair of the commission, says in a news release.
“He knows the community and the operation thoroughly, he knows the men and women on the team, and he can provide the steady leadership we need while we go through the search process for a new chief.”
