Officials are investigating the “unexpected” death of a patient at the Restigouche Hospital Centre in Campbellton.
In a news release, the Vitalité Health Network said staff noted the patient’s death Saturday morning.
They said the patient’s family, police and the coroner were contacted immediately.
“An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the death,” said the health authority, which is not making any further comment.

The mental health centre was thrust into the spotlight on Thursday after New Brunswick’s ombud released a scathing report.
Charles Murray detailed serious incidents of patient mistreatment, which he said were caused in part by chronic understaffing.
He called on the province to shrink the mandate of the institution and potentially close a number of units, reducing the number of mental health populations it is mandated to serve.
