An “unexpected legal issue” has delayed the start of the second-degree murder trial for Dennis Oland.
Close to 20 people showed up at the Saint John law courts on Tuesday morning ahead of the scheduled 9:30 a.m. start.
But Court of Queen’s Bench Justice Terrence Morrison told the court the case would be adjourned until 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday
Morrison said the trial cannot go ahead until the issue is resolved, adding the matter will become public “in due course”.

Oland is charged in the death of his father, Richard, who was found dead in his uptown Saint John office in July of 2011.
He was found guilty after a trial in 2015, but the New Brunswick Court of Appeal overturned the conviction in October of 2016.
Fourteen jurors and two alternates were selected last week for the retrial.
