The provincial Liberal finance critic says the federal government is taking the housing issue seriously but now it’s up to the province.
Rob McKee, MLA for Moncton Centre, commented on the federal budget announced on Thursday.
McKee notes how the Higgs government’s track record on affordable housing is not great.
“There are plans to create more affordable housing units but they haven’t even lived up to their last three year plan of 151 units with only 87 units completed or under development apparently.”
In terms of health care, McKee says the province continues to have glaring needs with major issues like ambulance offload delays – especially in Moncton – and a shortage of health care professionals.
McKee takes issue when Premier Blaine Higgs is constantly saying more funding is needed.
“He’s been getting significant health care funding increases over the last little while and all the while he’s padding his surpluses but the health budget goes underspent like it did last year.”
