Reports out this morning Halifax and Moncton are vying to host the World Juniors next year.
The 2023 tourney was scheduled for Russia, but the IIHF pulled the event because of the invasion of Ukraine.
Few details are being released by the City of Moncton.
Spokesperson Isabelle Leblanc confirmed that they are currently exploring a joint bid for the World Junior Championship, but wouldn’t comment further, “International sporting events present an opportunity to create significant economic and community impact and vibrancy for our city and region. We are currently exploring the opportunity to submit a joint bid for the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship, however out of respect for the competitive process underway, I can’t comment any further at this time.”
Formal bids to host the tournament are due next week and a decision should be made by the end of April.
Halifax last hosted the event in 2003.
