The deputy police chief in Saint John will retire on Saturday.
Tony Hayes spent more than 30 years with the Saint John Police Force.
He started out as a cadet constable with the Dalhousie Police Force in 1991 before joining the Saint John Police Force the following year.
Over the years he served in many roles including patrol services, emergency tactical, criminal investigations and media relations.
He became staff sergeant for patrol services in 2014 and was named deputy chief in 2020.
In a news release issued on Thursday, Staff Sgt. Sean Rocca said Tony’s professional and honourable service will be missed but not forgotten.
“We all wish him and his family the absolute best in health and happiness as they turn the page on another chapter of life,” Rocca said.
The Canada-wide search for a new deputy chief will start in the next few weeks.
