Nova Scotia is getting ready to welcome thousands of fans for the return of Touchdown Atlantic.
The Canadian Football League has announced more details about its return to the Maritimes after a two-year pandemic pause.
Wolfville will host our province’s first-ever CFL regular season contest on July 16th between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Toronto Argonauts.
“I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of my friends and family in Nova Scotia, and to play a game in front of them this season will be unforgettable, “Roughriders player Brett Lauther says in a news release. “There is a lot of love for football in Atlantic Canada. I hope by bringing the game to the east coast, we can inspire the next generation of CFL players.”
The province previously hosted a pre-season contest at Saint Mary’s University’s Huskies Stadium in 2005.
For the contest this summer, Acadia University’s Raymond Field will be expanded to host 10,000 fans, installing approximately 7,000 new seats.
A bus service will be offered on game day to help bring spectators from Halifax to Acadia.
There will be three days of festivities leading up to the main event featuring football camps and clinics, block parties and live music.
“In celebration of the 2022 Halifax Pride Festival (July 14-24), CFL alumni will host football clinics for women and members of the LGBTQ2+ community to reach new fans and those looking to better understand the game,” the CFL news release says.
The event will also kickstart celebrations for the upcoming Grey Cup, which will be hosted in Regina on November 20th. A huge block party will be held with a nightly concert series.
Ticket sales will open to the public on April 26th.
