Say goodbye to the Kennebecasis Valley High School Crusaders and hello to the Blue Knights.
The Quispamsis high school has unveiled a new mascot — Knickie the Blue Knight — it says is updated and more inclusive.
The Crusader, which had been the school’s mascot for 50 years, was retired before March break.
“The idea to update our mascot has been on our radar for a number of years and this felt like the right time to make the move,” principal JoEllen Jensen said in a news release.
School officials spent the past two years consulting with the community, parents, staff and students about the change.
Jensen said Knickie’s colours and motto, “Crusading for Good,” honour the school’s long legacy while reflecting the school’s current values.
“We are inclusive of all religions and cultures,” said Jensen. “We are proud of our diversities, and we want to move into the future with a mascot that embodies those values.”
The new mascot is already being transitioned into the school’s branding.
We had a great time launching of our new name and mascot today. Go Blue Knights
