The immediate area was in lockdown for most of the day, including universities and schools.
Fredericton Police Chief Roger Brown was grateful for the patience and cooperation of residents during the multi-hour operation.
“I appreciate the cooperation of Frederictonians today – particularly those living in and around the affected area, as well as students, staff and families of the affected schools. It was a very long day for everyone, and I am grateful for a successful resolution. We know only too well that situations like this could end very differently,” Brown said.
Crisis negotiators from Fredericton Police stayed in touch with the barricaded man for several hours and around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday he left the home and was taken into police custody without incident.
A search of the home by police led to the discovery of two long guns, a bulletproof vest and knives.
The hold and secure order on our Fredericton campus has been lifted and the community is now clear to resume normal operations. The @CityFredPolice have their suspect in custody and the situation is now resolved. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
