There is confirmation from the Royal Canadian Air Force’s Twitter feed one member of the Snowbirds team has been killed, and another has serious injuries, after a plane with the Canadian Forces Snowbirds demonstration team crashed in Kamloops, B.C.
The Prime Minister has issued his sorrow for the loss of Captain Jennifer Casey, and the injured, Richard MacDougall.
It happened after the aircraft took off from the Kamloops airport.
The crash took place during Operation Inspiration, which was meant to brighten spirits during the COVID-19 pandemic.
A snowbird’s jet crashed in Thunder Bay in August of 2005 just prior to an airshow which was scheduled for the waterfront.
The 39-year-old pilot Capt. Andrew MacKay ejected safely before the aircraft crashed in a field in a rural part of the city. He was not injured.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce that one member of the CF Snowbirds team has died and one has sustained serious injuries. We can confirm that we have contacted all primary family members of those involved. More information will be communicated in the near future.
