A Saint John man who recovered from COVID-19 is the first person in Atlantic Canada to donate convalescent plasma in a clinical trial aiming to help those with the virus recover faster.
Local developer Percy Wilbur and his family all became sick during the second week of March following a Caribbean vacation.
He tells us his symptoms were quite mild and similar to a cold.
“One of my daughters had quite an uncontrollable cough and we were concerned. I was having some pretty significant night sweats. A doctor friend of mine suggested calling the 811 number. Sure enough, we got tested and the next day it was confirmed.” Wilbur said.
Hooray! @CONCOR1Trial has enrolled its first patient today! We appreciate the hard work of our research team, clinicians, and plasma donors – and are grateful to our study patients. pic.twitter.com/fFkURrAVdk

Wilbur has high praise for everyone his family dealt with at Horizon Health and Public Health who kept in regular contact to see how they were doing.
After he recovered, Wilbur and his family were looking for a way to give back and became aware of the CONCOR clinical trial.
He made his donation on Thursday at the Canadian Blood Services clinic in Saint John.
