During Friday’s COVID-19 briefing, Premier Blaine Higgs wore a red t-shirt with the words “thank a trucker”.
He joked he doesn’t usually “wear red’ but he wanted to speak about the critical role truckers played during the pandemic providing essential supplies to us.
The shirt is part of a campaign through the Atlantic Trucking Association.
The premier also discussed the many job openings in the province, especially in the seafood processing sector.
“We are looking for fish plant labourers, seafood plant workers, lobster processors and more in addition to the agricultural sector. So far more than 700 job-seekers have registered on the Job Match NB website. We held a virtual fair earlier this week with more than 1700 attendees,” Higgs said.
There are unfilled jobs available now in seafood processing across the province. Can you help? Step up and help build a stronger New Brunswick. Apply today. https://t.co/MM4P6ZQI4R pic.twitter.com/4RRR3znqZu

Higgs thanked those who are answering the call including a group of 13 young people in Blackville, N.B. who will be working at Baie Ste. Anne Seafood.
The premier mentioned a list of suppliers of personal protective equipment for businesses that need it.
“We have developed a list of New Brunswick companies that can sell personal protective equipment to interested businesses or industry associations. This list can be found on the GNB Coronavirus website.”
Higgs said many retailers will be closed on Monday for Victoria Day providing a much-needed rest for workers who have been serving the public with necessities during the pandemic.
