The Salvation Army is ramping up efforts to make sure nobody is going without during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The organization’s Maritime Division announced on Monday that it now offers a food bank delivery service across the province.
Divisional Secretary for Public Relations and Development Captain Jamie Locke notes that the program is for anyone in need, and access is as simple as reaching out to the nearest location.
“By phone, by email, through social media, whatever your means of communication may be,” he explained. “Please reach out to the Salvation Army. Identify yourself as being in need of food bank assistance and not being able to come out.”
Locke says that even if a community doesn’t have a Salvation Army, those in need should still reach out to the nearest location.
“We’re in 24 communities right across the Maritimes,” he explained. “So, even if in your particular community you do not have a Salvation Army, the Salvation Army in the nearest community will serve your region.”
The Salvation Army food banks continue to operate following the strict health and safety guidelines laid out by the province, and anyone experiencing food insecurity is encouraged to reach out.
Those who do have reliable transportation can still coordinate regular pick-up.
