There’s no word on how long the federal government can keep funding businesses and people through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Health Minister Patty Hajdu said it depends on how long the nation needs to maintain physical distancing rules.
“As long as we do, Canada has the capacity and the fiscal firepower to have your back. It’s important to know that we are in good financial shape and this undoubtedly is going to be hard financially and health-wise to recover from but this is what we need to do to get through this together,” Hajdu said.
The federal health minister calls the government’s COVID-19 related programs historical.
Hajdu suggests North America should brace for another wave of coronavirus in the fall saying they know there will be several waves of coronavirus.
“Part of the work we are doing right now is putting together the social and health safety network what does that mean, kind of the idea of making sure our health systems are strong and ready, that we have good local public health and that they have the capacity to do contact tracing and identification of cases,” Hajdu said.
