Businesses in all sectors in New Brunswick are looking at what they need to do to reopen safely in the coming weeks and months.
Premier Blaine Higgs says physical distancing will be an important directive to follow.
“Every business should assess their physical space for ways to stay at least two metres away from others. If this amount of space can’t be maintained, the business will need to take other measures such as using face masks.”
Higgs says the province is working with businesses to develop engagement sessions where owners will be able to connect directly with public health and various other government departments.
Opportunities NB will issue a webinar on May 8 about economic recovery which will feature an expert panel providing tips and answers to common questions that businesses might have as they get ready to reopen.
Meantime, agricultural and seafood industry employers are worried since many hire temporary foreign workers and about 600 are still needed.
Temporary foreign workers are now restricted from entering New Brunswick under the pandemic.
Higgs is suggesting that workers could be recruited from within the province noting how we have 30,000 post-secondary students, 7,000 Grade 12 students and tens of thousands who are currently unemployed.
The premier adds it’s also possible that unemployed casual or seasonal workers from government departments could be called back to work in agriculture or the fishery.
