Premier Blaine Higgs acknowledges the pandemic has been difficult for family and friends who are currently not allowed to visit residents of nursing homes.
Higgs says the province wants to ensure that these connections are not lost.
“We are providing New Brunswick nursing homes with iPads to help residents stay in touch with their family and friends. The Department of Social Development will provide one tablet for 10 residents. In total, the province’s nursing homes will receive about 480 iPads,” Higgs says.
To maximize the use of the tablets, Higgs says each one will be equipped with a virtual care application enabling physicians to provide care to residents remotely.
Meantime, he adds the province’s COVID-19 information line has received more than 8,000 calls since it launched and any non-compliance issues have been forwarded to law enforcement.
As of Monday, 29 tickets had been issued for violating the provincial state of emergency order.
