Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the border closure between Canada and the United States has been extended for another 30 days.
Trudeau said no changes have been made in the agreement, which was originally announced in March. He said Minister of Public Safety Bill Blair handled the discussions with the United States government.
On Saturday, the Prime Minister also announced $306 million in funding to support Indigenous businesses.
“It will allow Indigenous businesses to access short-term interest-free loans, and non-repayable contributions so they are better positioned to rebound after this crisis,” Trudeau said.
Trudeau also announced the arrival of two planes with N95 masks and other personal protective equipment.
“More shipments will be coming this weekend and into next week, with additional medical supplies,” the Prime Minister said.
The supply line for medical masks had previously been threatened by President Donald Trump, who had asked 3M not to distribute the masks internationally before a deal was reached between the neighboring countries.
