New Brunswick’s chief medical officer of health had one new case of COVID-19 to report today.
Dr. Jennifer Russell says this brings the total number of cases in the province to 117.
Russell says the new case in in the Campbellton and that the individual is in their 40s.
Of the 117 cases, 66 are travel-related, 42 are close contacts of previously confirmed cases, and nine are the result of community transmission.
During the pandemic, 12 people have been hospitalized and seven have since been discharged. Three of the five patients remaining in hospital are in an intensive care unit.
To date, 77 people have recovered.
Dr. Russell also reminded residents that if they need to go to the emergency room, it is safe to do so.
“Our hospitals have taken precautions to keep people suspected of having COVID-19 outside of the emergency rooms by setting up off-site assessment centres or in other parts of the hospital,” she says.
While these numbers seem encouraging, Russell says we must remain vigilant by continuing to wash our hands regularly and staying a at a safe distance from one another.
“I am much more concerned about community transmission right now as opposed to travel-related cases,” she says.
Russell urges anyone who can to get tested by calling 811, their family doctor or nurse practitioner to set up an appointment.
