The United Kingdom’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson is out of the hospital and says the U.K. health service saved his life.
Johnson was admitted to St. Thomas’ Hospital in London a week ago for “persistent” coronavirus symptoms.
In a video on Twitter, he thanked medical staff, including two nurses he said stayed by his bedside for 48 hours.
“The reason, in the end, my body did start to get enough oxygen, was because for every second of the night, they were watching, and they were thinking and they were caring, and making the interventions I needed,” Johnson said.
Johnson says his situation “could have gone either way.”
He adds while it is difficult to stay inside as the weather warms up, he believes the efforts of U.K. residents and medical staff will defeat the coronavirus.
There are 78,991 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the U.K., and 9,875 deaths.
