The provincial government posted a video this weekend to help explain the COVID-19 pandemic to younger New Brunswickers.
The video featured Dr. Jennifer Russell, the province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, explaining new concepts like physical distancing in relatable terms.
“Stay two meters apart, or one cow, or a bicycle,” Dr. Russell said.
Much of the messaging around COVID-19 has been directed at adults, as governments work quickly to establish social programs to take care of those afflicted with the virus, or recently unemployed.
Dr. Russell used the video to say she understands how difficult this is for all New Brunswickers.
“This has been a really challenging time for small people, and tall people,” she said. “We know you’re feeling the uncertainty and we are too.”
The province announced a virtual Easter egg hunt over the weekend. An Easter-themed colouring sheet was posted to its website, and children are encouraged to show off their artwork in their window and online.
Dr. Russell recognized the lack of routine since schools closed last month could pose challenges, but she imparted her gratitude for the sacrifices made by the youngest in our province.
“Thank you for everything you do for us,” she said. “It matters.”
