Canada’s top doctor know it’s going to be a weird Easter long weekend for everyone this year.
Dr. Theresa Tam says that we need to break tradition this year, which means not inviting anyone over to your house for a meal.
“Although many of us normally travel at this time of the year, right now we need to avoid all non-essential travel whether in Canada or outside of the country. (If you do travel,) be aware that there is a range of movement restrictions between and within the provinces and territories.”
She explains that the safest plan for your holidays is ‘staycation for the nation’.
“I must remind everyone that this is the critical time to maintain our physical distancing while connecting virtually over phone, emails, video chatting and the like.”
She confirms that there are currently more than 19,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Canada, and many more being tested every day.
“On the lab side, we have now completed testing for over 359,000 people in Canada,” says Tam, “…maintaining about a five per cent confirmed positive rate to track where spread is occurring.”
Tam adds that the health system is coping so far thanks to the efforts of all Canadians.
