The first known animal in the United States has tested positive for COVID-19.
Officials at The Wildlife Conservation Society says a Nadia, a four-year-old Malayan tiger at the Bronx Zoo has the virus.
Tests done at the USDA’s National Veterinary Services Laboratory confirmed the diagnosis.
Officials believe the tiger was infected by a person who was caring for them who was asymptomatically infected with the virus.
Nadia, her sister, two Amur tigers and three African lions had also developed a dry cough last month, but they are all expected to recover.
There is currently no evidence that humans can catch COVID-19 from animals.
