An important run to help commemorate three fallen RCMP officers in Moncton has been forced to cancel due to COVID-19.
President of the Three Fathers Run Nadine Larche says they’ve decided to cancel the run in an effort to help flatten the curve and keep everyone safe.
The run was scheduled on June 21st, which is Father’s Day.
Over 10, 000 runners, walkers and volunteers have participated in the past.
The run has also raised $90,000 to provide scholarships to grade 12 students at all area high schools.
“Even though we will not run together, we will still give out a more limited number of scholarships. It’s something very important to all of us and cancelling the public side of the event shouldn’t cancel all of the scholarships we provide. We see everyone coming together to navigate this, especially all the health professionals, first responders and essential workers, so we wanted to continue offering some scholarships as we know that many families are being hit hard by the economic impact of the current situation.” Larche says
She adds, “The entire Three Fathers Memorial Run team is extremely grateful to the healthcare professionals, first responders and all essential workers who keep us all safe during this time. Once again, we see our communities coming together in the face of adversity.”
Criteria for the scholarship is being revised, and students from the six schools are encouraged to apply.
