Frank and Julie McKenna have made a generous contribution to food banks.
The former premier and his wife have announced a $100,000 donation to the New Brunswick Association of Food Banks.
The money will be directly distributed to the 60 food banks around the province.
President Yves Sevigny says the COVID-19 pandemic has created a huge demand over the past couple of weeks and he thanks the McKenna’s for recognizing this urgent need.
He says some food banks are seeing an increase from 10 to 50 percent given the recent number of job layoffs.
It often takes a month or more before any employment insurance payments are received and Sevigny adds that leaves a lot of families without any choice but to turn to food banks.
