The federal government is providing help for the country’s most vulnerable communities.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says they’ve committed $200 million for shelters, to help the homeless and those fleeing domestic violence.
Trudeau says while everyone is being asked to stay home, many don’t have a safe one to go to.
Additionally, they’ll be allocating $9 million to the New Horizons for Seniors Program.
Trudeau says this will help seniors with things like health check-ups and grocery deliveries.
He says many children are also heavily impacted and announced $7.5 million to support the Kids Help Phone.
Trudeau thanked the employees and volunteers who work for these groups.
“I know it’s been hard lately, not just because more and more people need your help but because you’re struggling to keep doing this work for marginalized and vulnerable people during a public health crisis on a scale that Canada has never before seen,” he says.
Trudeau says he’ll have more to say soon on support for those helping the vulnerable.
