The Saint John Airport is doing its part to help curb the spread of COVID-19 in the region.
The airport is asking non-travelers to stay out of the terminal, in addition to waiving short-term parking fees.
“Say your goodbyes at the curb, drop people off. Don’t come into the airport if you’re not travelling,” said Brian Wiggins, Director of Facilities at YSJ.
Wiggins says the airport has seen some issues with crowding, but for the most part its users have been abiding by social distancing measures.
“With the size of our airport, and the number of people travelling, we tend to be able to avoid those dense crowds,” he said. “We’re fortunate in that regard.”
YSJ has not hosted an international flight since last weekend, when a Sunwing flight from Cuba landed. Border security handled the off-loading of that plane.
For now, Wiggins says the key is to reduce the risk for their employees so they can continue to offer essential services.
“We’re taking steps, and we really want to reduce the risk for our essential staff who are in there keeping things operating.”
