The House of Commons will be recalled once again after it was suspended for five weeks due to COVID-19.
The prime minister says they’ll be sitting on Tuesday to pass emergency legislation.
Justin Trudeau says they are looking at next steps while consulting with various levels of government.
“The Federal Emergencies Act is a significant step that can and should be taken when we’ve exhausted all other steps, at orders of other governments, and the legislation and regulations available to the federal government are insufficient to respond to the situation at hand,” he says.
Trudeau discussed measures already taken by the federal government and thanked essential workers for their perseverance through these challenging times.
He also emphasized the importance of having all Canadians follow hand-washing and social distancing recommendations.
