The relentless battle against the COVID-19 virus is being fought by many extremely busy people, and one of them is Canada’s health minister.
Patty Hajdu said she is in constant contact with many, many others.
“Every single person, every single researcher, every single government official, and even private sector are working full out. If you think this as the equivalent to a war, I mean, you can see Canada just gearing up just trying to protect peoples’ health,” says Hajdu.
Hajdu added the economy is the other major piece the government is fighting for. Very important decisions are being made, but she says it’s too early to tell if Canada will go under full lockdown.
“I speak with some of the most affected provinces almost daily, to determine what they’re thinking as to the next steps. As the prime minister said, nothing is off the table. If we have to contain particular regions or areas, we will,” added Hajdu.
She pointed out how important it is to balance how people get around with maintaining the health of those that are OK.
Hajdu is also taking time to reflect on what the COVID-19 pandemic is doing worldwide. She admitted like everyone else she is in deep shock this is happening.
“I am somewhat reflective of the fact that ours has been a golden generation. We’ve never seen distress like this as a generation or two, that have had the privilege of living in extremely good times,” she said.
Hajdu adds regardless of political stripe, all parties in Ottawa are coming together to fight this virus.
