There are no confirmed cases of coronavirus in New Brunswick.
Dr. Jennifer Russell, the chief medical officer of health for the province, providing an update Wednesday afternoon.
Russell says the World Health Organization and Public Health Agency of Canada are actively monitoring the situation in China.
“My team participates in daily calls with partners at the national level such as the Council of Chief Medical Officers Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada.
Our team meets regularly provincially to ensure protective measures are in place in case the virus enters New Brunswick,” Russell said.

New Brunswickers can do their part to protect themselves such as washing their hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Dr. Russell says information is forthcoming for New Brunswick universities with international students from China.
Canadian health officials have a different approach for reporting with coronavirus than they used with the provincial measles outbreak last year.
“What we have agreed upon across the country is, we will only report on actual cases that have been confirmed by the National Microbiology Lab in Winnipeg,” Russell said.
Dr. Russell repeated what others have said in recent days that the overall risk to Canadians is low.
