A busy start to 2020 for the Sussex Fire Department with a structure fire right in the middle of the town.
Crews were dispatched to an apartment building and found a fire in a rear stairwell, which was quickly knocked down.
Eight of the residents went to stay with friends and family, while another couple got assistance from the Canadian Red Cross. There was smoke and water damage to the building.
During the ventilation process for the original call, there was a second call for an alarm at the Nutrien Civic Centre.
Two crews went to that scene only to find a malfunction in the ventilation system that triggered the alarm.
