A fire has destroyed an auto body and mechanical shop in Lower Norton, near Hampton.
Fire crews were called to the business on Pickwauket Road around noon Sunday.
“It was fully involved when we got there,” said Mike Raeburn, deputy chief of Hampton Fire-Rescue. “The flames were up through the roof.”
The Belleisle Valley, Nauwigewauk and Kennebecasis Valley fire departments were also called to help. Raeburn said the fire was under control within an hour but crews were on scene until around 5 p.m.
Two cars inside the building were also destroyed and several vehicles parked around it were damaged, he said.
Raeburn said it was a tough call for him because it was his brother who owned the business.
“It is emotional because it is your family that you’re trying to protect,” he said.
Raeburn said they have a “pretty good idea” what caused the fire but are not releasing the details right now.
“It’s not suspicious or anything like that,” Raeburn said.
