Mounties are investigating a report of “financial irregularities” in New Brunswick’s lieutenant-governor’s office.
Sgt. Mario Maillet, a spokesperson for the New Brunswick RCMP, said they received a complaint on Aug. 2.
That was the same day Jocelyne Roy Vienneau, the province’s 31st lieutenant-governor, died from cancer.
Maillet said no charges have been laid but declined to provide further details about the investigation.
“We are currently looking into it,” said Maillet on Thursday afternoon.
A spokesperson for the provincial government declined to comment on the investigation.
“Questions about any RCMP investigation should be directed to the RCMP,” said John McNeil in an email.
