Flea market enthusiasts flocked to Sussex this past weekend for the largest flea market in the Maritimes.
Organizers say an estimated 15,000 to 18,000 people turned out for the 38th annual Sussex Flea Market.
Blair Chisholm, chairman of the flea market, said there were close to 900 vendors with some coming from as far away as Ontario.
“If you’re looking for something, guess what, if it’s not there, it’s probably not available,” said Chisholm.
The New Brunswick Antique Auto Club originally organized the event as an antique automotive flea market car corral.
It has since become a three-day event with a broad range of items for sale, including rare collectables, jewellery, handicrafts and household items.
All 860 sites for this years flea market are now full. So bring your money August 16, 17, 18 and buy your treasures….

Chisholm described the flea market as a social weekend of sorts for the public and vendors — many of whom return year after year.
“They try to renew their own spot that they have already and some of them have had it for years,” he said. “I was talking to one gentleman, he had the same lot for 33 years.”
Chisholm was unable to put a dollar figure on the economic impact of the flea market but said there is certainly an impact.
“In Sussex, if you tried to get a motel that weekend or in a restaurant, they’re full,” he said.
Organizers have already begun planning for next year’s edition of the flea market, which takes place on the weekend of the third Saturday of August.
