RCMP say a 67-year-old man from Kingston, N.B., has died after the plane he was flying crashed near Sussex.
Sgt. Jim MacPherson said they were called to a private airstrip on Marshall Hill Road in Wards Creek around 6:40 p.m. Wednesday.
“It was one of the property owners at the airstrip who noticed the plane down and called us,” said MacPherson on Thursday.
MacPherson said officers found a private single-engine aircraft which had crashed close to the airstrip.
The pilot and lone occupant of the small plane died at the scene from his injuries, he said.

MacPherson said the investigation will be turned over to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB).
“We hold the scene until they arrive,” he said. “Once they arrive and get started, they’ll release the scene and take over the investigation.”
Officials with the TSB confirmed two investigators has been deployed to the scene from Dartmouth, N.S.
The independent agency is responsible for investigating marine, pipeline, railway and aviation transportation occurrences.
“The TSB will gather information and assess the occurrence,” said a statement from the agency.
