Atlantic Lottery is warning about the dangers of buying lottery tickets for any children in your life.
Spokesperson Denise Pettis says research has shown young people who play for money are more likely to develop gambling problems down the road.
“Lottery tickets can be great last minute gifts for the adults in your life, but not for anyone under the age of 19,” Pettis said.

It is illegal for anyone under the age of 19 to buy lottery products, but Pettis said retailers cannot control where the tickets go once they are sold.
“This is why we are reminding people not to give these tickets to young people as gifts,” she said.
Pettis said ALC’s 3,000 retailers will, as they always do, ask for ID from anyone who looks 25 years of age or younger.
The corporation has tips on its website for adults about how to talk to children about gambling and the dangers associated with it.
