A Saint John police officer spent the day Tuesday on the stand at Dennis Oland’s second-degree murder trial.
Const. David MacDonald testified about several items he seized from Oland’s home on July 14, 2011, including a brown sports jacket with a dry cleaning tag.
MacDonald says when the jacket was examined nearly four months later, in November of 2011, he noticed several “blood-like stains” on it.
The jacket was among several items sent to an RCMP lab that same month for examination.
After examining the jacket, MacDonald says he examined several other articles of clothing seized from Oland's residence.

MacDonald said he also examined a garbage pail seized from the master bedroom bathroom of Dennis Oland’s home, which contained 10 pieces of dry cleaning tags.
Court previously heard Dennis Oland’s wife, Lisa, dropped off a brown sports jacket at a dry cleaner on July 8, 2011 — the day after Richard Oland’s death — and picked it up the next day.
MacDonald said he also examined a log book with stains on it, though it was determined the stains were made before Oland’s death.
Examination of MacDonald went a bit faster than expected, according to the defence. Court has been adjourned until Wednesday morning so they have time to prepare their questioning.

The defence is scheduled to being its cross-examination of MacDonald on Wednesday.
