If you take a drive on Highway 7 between the first Grand Bay-Westfield exit and the third one you may see a lot of people swerving to avoid hitting potholes, cracks, ruts, or even large missing chunks of pavement from the road, or they may well be driving partially along the shoulder.
The condition of that stretch of road has been brought up at recent meetings of Grand Bay-Westfield council according to Mayor Grace Losier.
“Frankly I take the first exit to avoid that, the Deputy Mayor indicated that it was absolutely deplorable and not fit to drive on, we are hearing that in many many cases so we are hoping that all those politicians that have to drive to Fredericton will support that thinking and find the funding necessary to fix it,” stated Losier.
Mayor Losier admits we did have a rough winter on most roads in the province but it’s been in bad shape long before winter, and she is concerned about the impact on tourism.
“Visitors are getting ready to come to our province coming down to Saint John through Fredericton, it’s very important as we start tourism season that people do not leave with a bad taste in their mouth about travel to southern New Brunswick.”
The section of highway that Losier calls “dastardly and deplorable” is in the riding of the Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Oliver.
