Organizers are gearing up for the annual 50+ Friendship Games in the Saint John area.
Between 200 and 300 people take part in the games, which happen during the first week of June.
Linda Nickerson with the Seniors’ Resource Centre said there will be activities for everyone.
There are many active games like horseshoes and darts — as well as quieter activities like card games and bowling.
“We have a lot of people in their 70s and 80s and some in their 90s, and they would prefer to have quiet games,” said Nickerson.
Events begin on June 3 and wrap up with an awards banquet at Exhibition Park on June 7.
But Nickerson said it is not so much a competition as it is a week of enjoyment and friendship.
“We do give an award for first, second and third, but it’s not for winning, it’s for just enjoying friends, for getting to know new people,” she said.
The registration fee is $30 and the deadline to apply is Friday, May 17. You can fill out an application form online, drop by the Seniors’ Resource Centre on the third level of Brunswick Square, or call 506-633-8781.
