The mayor of Quispamsis says the community support during this year’s flood was nothing short of amazing.
As floodwaters began to rise, the town asked for help to fill and deliver sandbags to affected residents.
Mayor Gary Clark said as soon as the call went out, volunteers came out in droves.
“It was amazing to see how many volunteers came out this year,” said Clark. “We had more volunteers than last year, and actually, we had to turn some away at the end.”
About 80 homes in the town were impacted by this year’s flood when the Kennebecasis River approached last year’s historic levels.

Clark said there was lots of preparation ahead of time and things went quite smoothly.
“What I noticed is that the residents took action from last year’s flooding and they actually built berms and were ready this year,” he said.
The town was also prepared for the flood, Clark said. Staff once again hand-delivered letters to residents in at-risk areas so they could be prepared.
Clark said the town will work with the province to see if any improvements are needed for future events.
