The Town of St. George has put out a call for donations to fire victims.
On Wednesday, February 27th, around noontime, the St. George Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 8 Clinch Street, an apartment building with five units.
The fire was put out within minutes, as the Fire Hall is located only two blocks away, but there was some damage to the building from fire, water, and smoke.
The amount of damage is not known at this time, as the investigation is ongoing, but it will take some time for repairs.
Fourteen people have been displaced, including several infants and toddlers.
The Canadian Red Cross was on site to help the fire victims and set up temporary lodging at a local hotel for several nights.
If you would like to make a monetary donation, the St. George branch of the Bank of Nova Scotia has set up a “Disaster Relief Fund”.
The St. George & Area Food Bank is also collecting some clothing and item donations for the victims.
The Food Bank can be reached at (506) 755-2603.
