A New Brunswick hospital is once again receiving national recognition for environmental stewardship.
The Saint John Regional Hospital won an ENERGY STAR Canada Award for Building of the Year in the hospital category.
It recognizes the hospital for its commitment to energy efficiency and environmentally sustainable practices.
“This acknowledgment is celebrated by passionate teams at Horizon and our commitment to pioneering eco-friendly practices, marking a journey of excellence that began with our first Canadian ENERGY STAR certification in 2018,” Horizon Vice-President Jeff Carter said in a news release.
Over the past two years, the hospital has introduced a third set of solar panels and installed two electric vehicle chargers.
Recent enhancements include occupancy sensors in washrooms and administrative areas, switching from pneumatic to digital thermostats, upgraded lighting and lighting controls, and retrofitted air handling units.
All regional facilities at Horizon are now ENERGY STAR certified.
