Charlotte County’s weekly newspaper is pausing publication amid a potential ownership change.
The Saint Croix Courier, founded in 1865, is currently run by Halifax-based Advocate Media.
In a story published on the paper’s website Wednesday, President Crystal Murray said they believe the paper should be in local hands to best serve the community.
The company said it has approached CHCO-TV in Saint Andrews to consider taking over the paper in the coming months.
Murray cited the station’s deep community roots and commitment to local media in deciding to approach the station.
She added they are confident the paper can continue to serve as a cornerstone of local journalism and a vital community resource.
The print operations of St. Croix Printing & Publishing will remain in operation, according to Advocate Media.
Vicki Hogarth, the news director at CHCO-TV, confirmed in a Facebook post that they are in discussions to “help keep the paper alive.”
