Saint John police say three men have been arrested in connection with the murder of Justin Breau last summer.
The 39-year-old was stabbed in a Charles Street home on the afternoon of August 17th and later died in the hospital.
At the time, police said three masked men fled the scene on foot and were last seen heading toward Garden Street.
Police announced Wednesday afternoon that three men have been arrested in connection with Breau’s death.
Charles William Shatford, 47, was arrested Tuesday and appeared in court Wednesday on a charge of first-degree murder. He was remanded into custody until Feb. 10.
Two other men, ages 50 and 24, were arrested Wednesday. They are being held in custody with a court date on Thursday.
Police said the five-month investigation was “complex” and involved “hundreds of exhibits.”
In 2020, Breau was acquitted of second-degree murder in the 2019 shooting death of Mark Shatford on the city’s west side.
When asked if the stabbing and that verdict might be related, police said in August that they could not confirm that information at that time.
Police said they could also not yet confirm whether Breau had been targeted or if the incident was a random act.
