The Saint John Sea Dogs have signed their first selection from the 2022 QMJHL Draft.
Defenseman Jérémie Richard was selected 37th overall in the draft held earlier in June.
Richard was one of the top-scoring defensemen last season with the Moncton Flyers, who won the 2022 Telus Cup national championship.
Trevor Georgie, president and GM of the Sea Dogs, said they were to be able to select Richard at the spot they did.
“We have had the chance to get to know him and his family, and are so happy that they will get the opportunity to enjoy his hockey journey close to home, and develop in his home province,” Georgie said in a news release.
Richard said it is a privilege to be part of the Sea Dogs and take another step toward his dreams.
“I would like to thank all my family, friends, teachers and my past hockey clubs for making this possible. I am truly honoured to wear the blue and white,” he said.
Richard will join the Sea Dogs training camp on Aug. 15 and participate in the pre-season games, which begin on Aug. 18 in Fredericton.
