Alumni will be heading back to St. George in August for a reunion and fundraiser.
The newly formed Mariners Alumni Association, representing Fundy Middle and High School graduates, will host its first annual Kitchen Party.
The event is set for August 13 and will take place on the grounds of Fundy Middle and High School on Mount Pleasant Road.
Wilfred Langmaid is a member of the first graduating class at Fundy High in 1978 and will serve as the musical host for the event.
“In my actual role, I’m going to be pretty busy throughout the day, so I’m going to have to pick my spots as far as seeing folks, but I sure look forward to the opportunity,” said Langmaid.
“I don’t live in St. George anymore, indeed like many of us coming back for this event, so it’s truly a reunion.”
Langmaid said there will bring different music styles and influences, including new country, pop gospel, bluegrass, rock, folk, and blues.
“That blend of country, bluegrass, and gospel in the afternoon as the opening course, and then the more acoustic rock end of things for the final four hours with a lovely lining in the middle of the open mic.”
“We’ve made lots of time for the open mic because we’re looking forward to that being a fun, spontaneous event,” continued Langmaid.
Langmaid also mentioned there are other activities for participants to enjoy.
“There are all sorts of things, there are market tables with local vendors, there’s a silent auction, there are children’s activities, a 50/50 draw, there’s an archival display, it’s a day-long event.”
The event will also include a comedy set by Mark Taylor.
Musical performers include Martha Barker, Jackie Burns, Nick & Nicole Constantineau, Tom Mason & Angela Blackier, Claudette & Zaida Norman, Joshua Osborne, Running Out Of Time, and Natalie Steen.
The alumni association is also being formed with the help of graduates of schools in St. George, Back Bay, and Blacks Harbour which were established before Fundy High.
Part of the event will include a memorabilia display with items from the 1930s and onward.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for ages 10 to 18. People under 10 are asked to bring a non-perishable donation to the food bank.
