Team New Brunswick says it has announced the final rosters of the 23 teams that will represent the province at the 2022 Canada Summer Games in Niagara, Ont., from Aug. 6 to 21.
The province says 346 athletes, 80 coaches, managers and technical staff and 20 mission team members will converge for the games.
The group recently held its rally and salute to provide final briefings to the teams and to unveil the ceremonial uniform.
“Our teams are ready to compete against the nation’s best athletes at the 2022 Canada Summer Games,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Tammy Scott-Wallace in a press release.
“New Brunswickers should be proud of these teams which are composed of talented athletes and para-athletes.”
The 2022 Canada Summer Games were scheduled to take place in August 2021 but were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The games are one of the largest multi-sport events held in the country, featuring 18 sports over a 16-day period involving more than 5,000 athletes, coaches and managers.
Sports on New Brunswick’s competition calendar include: athletics, baseball, beach volleyball, box lacrosse, canoe kayak, cycling, golf, mountain bike, rowing, rugby sevens, sailing, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, triathlon, volleyball and wrestling.
“I encourage all New Brunswickers from every corner of our province to proudly cheer on our team members who will definitely enjoy their Canada Games experience,” said Team New Brunswick chef de mission Nicole Smith, who will lead the team for the third consecutive Canada Games.
